This October, we go to the polls to elect our municipal officials. In the lead up to the election, we are speaking to our neighbours, listening to what they care about, and building power to affect change in this election and beyond.

Issues We Care About
Housing 🏠🏚️🏢
While all levels of government are announcing housing investments, many of these will go to developers who will build rental housing not subject to provincial rent control. The City's contribution is often public land — they have the power to set the terms for what kind of housing can be built there.
Food Security 🥗🍞🥛
City staff are currently exploring the idea of city-run grocery stores, similar to what is being rolled out in New York City. Their report will come out in 2027, and your councillor will vote on it!
Childcare 🤰🏼👶🏿👧🏽
While the province determines overall childcare rates in publicly-funded centres, the City is responsible for additional subsidies for low-income families. The city also runs its own centres, and has the power to open more spaces, especially in underserved neighbourhoods.
Climate 🌊❄️🔥
The City of Toronto's goal is to have 40% tree canopy cover by 2050. Trees provide essential shade during warmer months, and are not distributed evenly across the city: poorer neighbourhoods are disproportionately affected during summer heat waves.
Transportation 🚎🚇🚃
Through important advocacy from transit advocacy group TTC Riders, Fare Capping was added to the 2026 City Budget. By 2027, riding the TTC every month will be even more affordable. You can find out more about candidates' transit commitments at ttcriders.ca.
Democracy 🗳️🗣️🗞️
The past decade has seen many changes to our local democracy, from the Ford government cutting Toronto's wards in half, to the takeover of school boards and subsequent removal of trustee powers. We believe that elected officials should represent the needs of all their constituents and be accountable to them. This means regular and equitable consultation with the public on issues that matter to them, transparent decision-making and a guarantee of our right to dissent when we feel our voices are not being heard.
